My name is Kris Theilen.  I am a 41 year old lifelong Springfield resident. I attended St. Joseph’s grade school, Ursuline Academy, and graduated from Lutheran High school.  I have a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from Culver Stockton College and a Masters degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Illinois at Springfield. I am a 15 year union State employee at the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity as a Management Systems Specialist in the Workforce Development division.  I have also worked at Department of Revenue, Department of Public Aid, and the Department of Public Health.  I have been your Ward 8 Alderman since 2007.

My wife Lori and I have two children, 8 year old Katie and 4 year old Josh.  I have to admit that my kids are the main reason I am running for re-election as Alderman in Ward 8.  I want my children to grow up to see the Springfield I remember: a vibrant, growing community; not the place I fear we are slowly becoming.

Safety of the community is my #1 priority.  To that end, I work closely with our Neighborhood Police Officers to stay up to date on what is happening in our area.  I speak with them regularly to relay your concerns and suggest areas for extra monitoring for suspicious activity or traffic concerns.

I would like to finish what I have started.  I feel that we have made great strides toward the issues in Ward 8, such as crime prevention and getting our fair share of the infrastructure improvements.

Please call me at home at 787-1744 or send me an email at with your concerns, questions, or feedback.  I am also on Facebook and Twitter.  I really do listen and respond.
